Jim Bravo ‘It Took an age Or Two To Get Home’

From the artist’s native birthplace of Guayaquil, Ecuador to Toronto, Canada, and onto Europe this exhibition presents works which collectively represent a study in immigration and resettlement. It explores themes such as ancestry, immediate family, inherited and adopted culture, and inter-cultural urban and rural dynamics. Each canvas is an expression of a memory, and should be considered a painted record of an instance for which no camera was present to capture. As the artists adopted home, depictions of life in Toronto form the core of the exhibit. Other depicted locations are not random inclusions, but rather ones which were under consideration by the family as a potential home.

Artist Bio

Oil Painter and Muralist Jim Bravo is a graduate of The Ontario College of Art and Design University. Career milestones include multiple T.A.B.I.A. mural awards, first honors for the Kingston Prize For Contemporary Canadian Portraiture, and numerous Landscape painting accolades. He is the recipient of The Toronto Art Council’s Black Projects grant for the years 2022 and 2023, and The Ontario Arts Council Creation grant for 2022 under which many of the works in this exhibition were created. In 2023 Bravo was selected to spearhead the District Of Muskoka’s extensive and ongoing I.D.E.A (Inclusivity Diversity Equality Anti-bullying & Racism) mural campaign decorating public edifices for various townships in the region.
